Mount Pearl, Newfoundland
There is a connection of Erica Clark Kenny's family roots to Mount Pearl - yet to be identified. The three largest cities in Newfoundland and Labrador are Corner Brook in the west, and Mount Pearl and St. John's, on the east coast of the province. The city of Mount Pearl, on the Waterford River, borders St. John's to the east, and is substantially smaller in population, yet only slightly smaller in size. It is primarily a residential suburb of St. John's and is also a summer resort. The original settlement included a large part of a tract of land granted in 1834 to the British naval officer Sir James Pearl, for whom the town is named. It was incorporated as Mount Pearl Park-Glendale in 1955 and renamed in 1958. Population 20,293 (1986); 25,519 (1996). It is considered (for Census purposes) - St.
John's West District. |
